A first transfer to Tangem should prove four things before a large balance moves: the intended asset is enabled, Tangem supports the chosen blockchain, the source will send through that same network and the complete receive address is correct. A token name such as USDT or USDC is not enough because the same label can exist on Ethereum, Tron, BNB Smart Chain, Base, Solana and other independent networks. This guide provides a controlled receive-and-send workflow built around a small test deposit, blockchain verification and preparation of the native gas asset.

Last reviewed: October 15, 2026. Tangem-supported networks, token lists, app navigation, transaction-history coverage, fee controls and dynamic-address availability can change. Exchange withdrawal methods, minimums and fees also change. Confirm every field in the current Tangem app and sending platform. This independent guide is educational, is not affiliated with Tangem and is not financial, legal, tax or recovery advice.

Quick answer: select the exact token and network in Tangem, open Receive, verify the complete address and make the sending exchange or wallet use the same blockchain. Send a small amount above any withdrawal minimum, save the transaction hash and wait for confirmation. Before sending the token back out, hold enough of that network’s native coin for gas. Never assume that identical token names—or even identical-looking EVM addresses—make two networks interchangeable.

  2. How to confirm that Tangem supports the source network.
  3. How to enable a listed asset or add an appropriate custom token.
  4. How to obtain and verify a receive address.
  5. How memo, destination tag and message requirements differ between self-custody and exchanges.
  6. How to complete a small test withdrawal from an exchange.
  7. How to verify a transaction independently with a blockchain explorer.
  8. Why a native gas asset is needed before the first outgoing transfer.
  9. How to troubleshoot a confirmed transfer that does not appear in Tangem.
  10. How to make the first controlled outgoing transaction.

Finish wallet setup before funding it

Complete the Tangem wallet creation and backup-card process appropriate to the chosen setup before depositing meaningful assets. Confirm that every intended backup card was added during the supported backup workflow and that the access code works. Do not treat an incoming transfer as a setup test.

Record which wallet set is active in the app. If more than one Tangem wallet is used, give each a clear local name so a receive address from a test wallet is not mistaken for the long-term wallet.

Do not begin with the full balance

Blockchain transfers are usually irreversible. A small test transfer cannot prevent every future problem, but it can expose a wrong address, wrong network, unsupported asset, missing token display or misunderstanding of the exchange’s withdrawal form before the entire position moves.

The test must still exceed the exchange’s minimum withdrawal and any amount required to activate an account on the destination chain. Plan the test and later main transfer as separate transactions with separate fees.

Coin, token and network are different fields

A native coin belongs to its blockchain: BTC to Bitcoin, ETH to Ethereum, TRX to Tron and SOL to Solana. A token is issued through a smart contract or token program on a network. The same commercial asset can be issued independently on several networks.

Therefore a transfer instruction needs at least three pieces of information: asset, network and receive address. Some destinations add a fourth field such as memo or destination tag.

Why “send USDT” is incomplete

Asset label Possible network Native fee asset
USDT Ethereum / ERC-20 ETH
USDT Tron / TRC-20 TRX
USDT BNB Smart Chain / BEP-20 BNB
USDT Solana SOL
USDC Base ETH on Base

These balances may track the same fiat currency, but they are separate blockchain assets. The sender’s network must match the network enabled for the receive workflow in Tangem.

Source and destination networks must match

The source network is the blockchain from which the sender broadcasts. The destination network is the blockchain on which Tangem derives or displays the receiving account. Selecting Ethereum in Tangem does not cause a Tron withdrawal to travel through Ethereum.

Compare full network names on both screens. Do not infer compatibility from a similar abbreviation, low fee or exchange recommendation.

Same EVM address does not mean same network

Ethereum-compatible networks often derive the same hexadecimal address for the same wallet key. Consequently, an Ethereum, Base, Polygon or BNB Smart Chain receive address may look identical. The assets nevertheless live on separate ledgers.

If USDC is sent on Base to an address also used on Ethereum, it remains on Base. The address appearance cannot substitute for choosing the correct network version in Tangem and the sending platform.

Check Tangem network support first

Open Tangem’s current supported-assets interface or Manage Tokens screen and find the asset under the intended network. Support for a network is the first requirement. If the blockchain itself is unsupported, adding a token name or contract cannot make transfers usable.

Support can change with application updates. Confirm in the current app instead of relying on an old review or screenshot.

Enable a listed token and network

In Tangem, open the wallet settings or Manage Tokens area, search for the token and enable the network version that matches the source. Return to the home screen and verify that the asset label includes the expected network where the interface provides it.

Enabling an item controls display and interaction; it does not bridge assets from another blockchain. If an existing balance appears after enabling it, the funds were already associated with that wallet address on that network.

When a custom token is appropriate

If the blockchain is supported but the token is not in Tangem’s standard list, the app may allow a custom token on that network. Obtain the contract address from the project’s official documentation and corroborate it with a reputable explorer. Do not copy a contract from a direct message, advertisement or unsolicited token.

Custom token support varies by network. A manually added token may lack automatic fiat price data even when its onchain balance and transfers work correctly.

A ticker and logo do not identify a token

Anyone can create a token with a familiar name, symbol and image on many smart-contract networks. The meaningful identifier is the complete contract address on the correct network. Two tokens named USDT can be unrelated if their contracts differ.

Compare the complete contract, decimals and network before adding a custom asset. Never interact with an unsolicited token merely because it imitates a known brand.

How to obtain a Tangem receive address

  1. Open the intended Tangem wallet.
  2. Select the exact cryptocurrency and network version.
  3. Tap Receive or Add funds → Receive as shown by the current app.
  4. Review the asset and network displayed on the receive screen.
  5. Copy the address or display its QR code.
  6. Compare the beginning and end after pasting it at the source.
  7. Confirm the network once more before submitting.

Receiving does not require card scanning

A public blockchain address can receive funds without the Tangem card being present or the app being open. The card is required for protected operations such as authorizing an outgoing transaction, not for an external sender to broadcast to the address.

This does not reduce the need to verify the receive address. The ability to receive without approval is also why spam tokens can appear unexpectedly.

Verify the complete address

Shortened interfaces display only a prefix and suffix. For a first transfer, compare the complete address between Tangem and the sending form where possible. Copy-and-paste reduces transcription error but introduces clipboard-substitution risk from malware.

After pasting, compare the full value or several separated segments, not merely the last four characters. If the address changes after copying, stop and secure the device.

QR codes reduce typing but do not prove intent

A QR code can transfer a complete address accurately, but it can still encode the wrong network’s address, an attacker-controlled destination or additional payment fields. Confirm the decoded address and asset in the sending wallet before approval.

Do not scan a QR code supplied by someone claiming to activate or verify Tangem. Wallet activation never requires sending crypto to a third party.

Address formats provide clues, not full verification

Bitcoin, Ethereum-style, Tron, Solana and XRP Ledger addresses use different structures. An obvious format mismatch is a reason to stop. A plausible format, however, does not prove ownership or network compatibility.

Some networks share address styles, and a malicious address can have the correct shape. The trusted receive screen remains the source of truth.

Memo, destination tag and message explained

Some blockchains support an additional identifier often called memo, tag or message. Centralized exchanges commonly use one deposit address for many customers and use the extra identifier to credit the correct account. A self-custody wallet normally controls its own address directly and may not need that customer identifier for receiving.

The destination determines the requirement. Copy the address and memo from the same destination screen. Never reuse a tag from another exchange or account.

Receiving into Tangem versus sending to an exchange

When an exchange sends to a Tangem self-custody address, Tangem’s current guidance says a destination tag generally is not needed for the personal address, although the sending platform may force a valid field. Follow Tangem’s up-to-date network-specific instructions.

When Tangem sends to an exchange, the exchange may require a specific tag or memo. Omitting it can leave a confirmed transaction uncredited until manual recovery, which may be unavailable or charge a fee.

Read the exchange withdrawal screen as one instruction

The asset, network, address, memo, withdrawal fee and minimum belong to one transaction. Do not copy an address from one network screen and select a cheaper network on another. If the exchange changes the available route, return to Tangem and regenerate or recheck the receive information.

Use an exchange address allowlist when appropriate, but verify the saved network and label. A valid saved address can still be wrong for a different token network.

Withdrawal fee and network fee

An exchange may charge a withdrawal fee that differs from the live blockchain transaction fee. The exchange controls its quoted deduction, batching and minimum. Tangem does not control an exchange’s fee for sending assets out.

Compare the amount requested, fee and amount expected to arrive. A test deposit must remain above any destination activation or reserve requirement after deductions.

Choose a useful test amount

A test should be small relative to the planned transfer but large enough to clear the source minimum, withdrawal fee and any network-specific account requirement. Avoid dust-sized amounts that cannot later be moved economically.

Use the same asset and network intended for the main transfer. A successful USDT test on Tron does not validate a later USDT withdrawal on Ethereum.

First deposit checklist

  1. Confirm the intended Tangem wallet set.
  2. Enable the exact asset and network.
  3. Open its receive screen.
  4. Copy and independently verify the address.
  5. Select the same network at the source.
  6. Handle memo or tag according to the destination instructions.
  7. Review minimum, fee and amount to be received.
  8. Send a controlled test.
  9. Save the exchange withdrawal ID and blockchain transaction hash.
  10. Wait for confirmation and verify the Tangem balance.

Save the transaction hash

A transaction hash identifies the blockchain transaction. It is different from an exchange’s internal withdrawal request ID. Save both because the exchange may show a request before the transfer is broadcast.

Open the hash using a reputable explorer for the selected network. A hash from Tron cannot be meaningfully checked on Ethereum’s explorer.

How to read an explorer result

Field What to verify Warning sign
Status Pending, success or failed Assuming an exchange email equals confirmation
Network Correct blockchain explorer Looking at the same address on another EVM chain
To Complete Tangem receive address Clipboard-substituted destination
Token contract Expected official contract Copied symbol with a different contract
Amount Net transferred quantity Confusing exchange fee with missing funds

Pending does not mean lost

An exchange withdrawal can wait in an internal security review before broadcast. After broadcast, the network may wait for inclusion and confirmations. Tangem may update only after its data provider sees the transaction.

Use the transaction hash to locate the current layer. If no hash exists, the source likely has not broadcast. If the explorer shows pending, the network is processing. If it shows success to the correct address, investigate display and token configuration.

Confirmed transaction but no Tangem balance

Check that the explorer is for the intended network and that the destination exactly matches Tangem. Then enable the correct token network in Manage Tokens. For a custom token, verify the contract and decimals. Refresh or update the app and consult current Tangem support information.

A missing fiat price is not the same as a missing token balance. Custom tokens may be visible without market-price integration.

Wrong network selected in the portfolio

If funds were sent correctly on Base but only the Ethereum version of the token is enabled, the address may look identical while the balance appears absent. Enable the Base version and check the address on a Base explorer.

Do not send another transaction until the first one is located. Display configuration is often safer to fix than creating additional transfers.

Unsupported network

If the source sent through a network Tangem does not support, the app may not provide access to that balance even when an address relationship exists. Recovery can be difficult, risky or impossible and depends on key derivation, network compatibility and future support.

Do not import or expose a seed phrase to an unknown recovery website. Use official Tangem support guidance and qualified assistance for meaningful amounts.

Wrong token contract

A transaction can be successful while delivering a counterfeit or different token. Compare the contract shown by the explorer with the official project contract for that network. Adding the token to Tangem will display what arrived; it will not transform it into the intended asset.

Do not swap or approve an unexpected token simply to remove it. Treat unsolicited tokens as untrusted.

Native gas is required for outgoing tokens

Receiving a token does not ensure that the wallet can send it later. Smart-contract token transfers consume the network’s native asset. USDT on Ethereum generally needs ETH; USDT on Tron needs TRX; a BNB Smart Chain token needs BNB; a Base token uses ETH on Base; a Solana token needs SOL.

Keep a modest gas reserve on the same network. ETH held on Ethereum cannot automatically pay a Base fee, even though both call the coin ETH.

Gas reserve planning

Token location Typical gas asset Common mistake
ERC-20 on Ethereum ETH on Ethereum Holding only the token
Token on BNB Smart Chain BNB on BNB Smart Chain Buying BNB on another chain
TRC-20 on Tron TRX Assuming USDT pays its own fee
SPL token on Solana SOL Receiving the token but no SOL
Token on Base ETH on Base Keeping ETH only on mainnet

Prepare the first outgoing transfer

Ask the recipient to provide the asset, network, address and any memo or tag. In Tangem, select the matching token version, tap Send, enter the destination and amount, and review the fee and full transaction summary. Scan the Tangem card only after every field is verified.

For a new destination, send a controlled amount first. Confirm receipt through the destination and explorer before sending the remainder.

Slow, market, fast and custom fees

Tangem can offer fee choices for supported networks. A lower fee can delay inclusion; an unnecessarily high fee wastes the native asset. A custom fee adds control but also the risk of selecting a value unsuitable for current conditions.

Use the app’s current estimate unless there is a documented reason to customize. Fee controls do not change the destination or repair a network mismatch.

Signing with the card is the point of authorization

Review occurs on the phone, while the Tangem card protects the signing key and authorizes the prepared transaction when scanned. The card cannot know the human intent behind an otherwise valid address. A correctly signed transaction to the wrong recipient is still wrong.

Do not scan the card while screen sharing with unsolicited support or while following instructions from a direct message.

Blockchain transactions cannot normally be cancelled

After a transaction is signed, broadcast and confirmed, Tangem cannot reverse it. The recipient, exchange or network may have recovery procedures in limited circumstances, but none should be assumed.

Test transfers, address verification and network matching are preventive controls. They are more reliable than attempting recovery after confirmation.

Address Book for repeated destinations

Tangem’s Address Book can reduce repeated copying for supported assets and networks. Give each entry a name that includes the service, owner, asset context and network. Review the destination against the receiving service before high-value transfers because an old saved address or memo may no longer be valid.

A saved address is not a guarantee that an exchange still accepts the same deposit network. Verify current deposit instructions.

Dynamic addresses on UTXO networks

Bitcoin and other UTXO networks can use a new receive address after prior activity. Tangem’s supported dynamic-address feature can rotate addresses while keeping them under the same wallet. A new receive address is not automatically evidence that the wallet changed.

Generate the current address for each new transfer instead of relying on screenshots. Previously generated addresses may remain associated with the wallet under standard derivation, but current official guidance should control reuse.

Network reserves and account activation

Some networks require a minimum reserve, account activation amount, token account or Trustline before certain assets can be used. These are protocol-specific requirements, not a universal Tangem fee. The spendable balance can therefore be lower than the displayed total.

Check Tangem’s current coin-and-token guidance before sending the absolute minimum to a new account or enabling a token that requires an onchain action.

Trustlines are not ordinary token toggles

On networks such as Stellar or XRP Ledger, interacting with issued assets can require a Trustline and reserve. Opening one is an onchain operation and may require the native asset. It also represents trust in a specific issuer or asset relationship.

Verify the issuer and understand the reserve before confirmation. Do not open a Trustline because an unsolicited token or message promises a reward.

Scenario: USDT withdrawal from an exchange

The user chooses USDT on Tron in Tangem, opens Receive and copies the address. At the exchange, they select USDT and explicitly choose Tron/TRC-20. They compare the full address, review the fee and send a small amount.

After the exchange broadcasts, they save the hash, verify it on a Tron explorer and confirm the balance in Tangem. Before sending USDT later, they add enough TRX for network resources or fees under current conditions.

Scenario: first Bitcoin deposit

The user opens Bitcoin in Tangem and generates the current receive address. The source selects the native Bitcoin network—not an exchange-wrapped BTC token on another chain. A test amount above the source minimum is sent and monitored on a Bitcoin explorer.

After confirmation, Tangem may present a new dynamic receive address under supported settings. Both addresses can belong to the same wallet, but the current receive screen should be used for the next transfer.

Scenario: transaction confirmed but token is hidden

The explorer shows the expected contract and Tangem address on BNB Smart Chain, but the home screen has no balance. The user opens Manage Tokens and enables that token on BNB Smart Chain. If it is not listed, they verify support and add the official contract as a custom token where permitted.

No new blockchain transfer is needed merely to refresh the display.

Scenario: missing gas after receiving a stablecoin

The user receives USDC on Base but cannot send it because the wallet has no ETH on Base. Buying ETH on Ethereum mainnet does not solve the Base fee requirement. They obtain a small amount of ETH specifically on Base through a supported route, test it and then prepare the token transfer.

Gas-funding links sent by strangers should not be trusted. Use verified exchange, bridge or network documentation.

Scenario: network mismatch discovered before confirmation

The Tangem screen shows USDT on Tron, while the exchange withdrawal form shows Ethereum. The address or fee may look plausible, but the user cancels, returns to network selection and chooses the route supported on both sides.

This pause is the correct result. Low fees or speed do not justify using a network different from the destination configuration.

Scenario: wrong network after broadcast

Stop sending additional funds. Save the source record, transaction hash, network, address and contract. Verify where the transaction confirmed and whether Tangem supports that network and derivation. Contact official Tangem support for supported recovery guidance.

Do not disclose a seed phrase, private key or card access code to a recovery service. Anyone with valid recovery material may control the entire wallet, not only the mistaken transfer.

Common first-transfer mistakes

  • selecting by token name without checking the network;
  • assuming identical EVM addresses make chains interchangeable;
  • copying a contract address from social media;
  • sending the full balance without a test;
  • ignoring the exchange withdrawal minimum and fee;
  • omitting a destination memo when sending to an exchange;
  • using an old deposit address or tag without checking;
  • discarding the transaction hash;
  • mistaking missing price data for missing tokens;
  • holding no native gas asset;
  • checking the address on the wrong explorer;
  • sharing wallet recovery material with fake support.

Frequently asked questions

Does Tangem need to be open to receive crypto?

No. A blockchain address can receive while the application is closed and the card is elsewhere. Use the app to generate and verify the correct address first.

Can I send USDT through any network to Tangem?

No. Tangem must support the network, the correct token version must be used and the sending platform must broadcast through the same network.

Why do several Tangem tokens show the same address?

Tokens on the same account-based network commonly share an address, and compatible EVM chains may derive the same-looking address. Their blockchain balances remain separate.

Do I need a memo when receiving into Tangem?

A personal self-custody address generally does not use a customer-identification memo in the same way as an exchange, but network and sending-platform requirements vary. Follow Tangem’s current receive guidance.

Why is my token not visible after confirmation?

The correct network version may not be enabled, a custom token may need to be added, the contract may differ or the app may need to refresh. Verify the hash on the correct explorer first.

Why can I receive a token but not send it?

The wallet may lack the network’s native gas asset. Add a controlled amount of the correct native coin on the same blockchain.

Can Tangem reverse a wrong transfer?

No general reversal is available for a confirmed blockchain transaction. Recovery depends on the network, destination control and compatibility and may be impossible.

Should I reuse a saved exchange address?

Only after comparing it with the exchange’s current deposit screen, including network and memo. Deposit routes and requirements can change.
