An OKX balance can be visible without being available for the action a user wants. Deposits and general asset holding may use the Funding Account, while spot orders, derivatives, margin and bots can use the Trading Account. Open orders, positions, loans, Earn subscriptions and withdrawal holds can reduce what is transferable or withdrawable. This guide follows funds from deposit through internal transfer, trading use and withdrawal readiness.
Last reviewed: October 20, 2026. OKX account organization, product names, transfer rules, holds and regional availability can change. Check the live account and region-specific OKX Help pages before acting. This independent guide is educational and is not financial, legal, tax or investment advice.
1. One OKX portfolio can contain several balances
The headline portfolio value is an aggregation, not a promise that every asset can be traded or withdrawn immediately. Funds can sit in Funding, Trading, Earn, sub-accounts and product-specific allocations.
When an action reports insufficient balance, identify the exact asset, account and availability category before depositing more or repeating an order.
2. What the Funding Account is for
The Funding Account commonly supports deposits, withdrawals, holding and payment-related flows. Crypto purchased through certain methods may first appear there. It separates general asset movement from active market exposure.
Funds visible in Funding may not be usable for a spot, futures or margin order until they are transferred to Trading.
3. What the Trading Account is for
The Trading Account supplies assets to supported spot, margin, futures, options, bots or other trading products, depending on region and account configuration. Orders and positions can reserve its balance.
Moving an asset into Trading does not open a position by itself. It makes the asset available under the applicable account mode and market rules.
4. Funding and Trading accounts at a glance
| Task | Funding Account | Trading Account |
|---|---|---|
| Receive a crypto deposit | Common destination | May be selected or used automatically in supported flows |
| Place a spot order | Not normally the order balance | Uses available trading balance |
| Support margin or derivatives | No direct position use | Collateral may be reserved |
| Hold without active orders | Yes | Yes, but exposed to account-mode rules |
| Withdraw | Typical withdrawal source or flow | May require available funds or an internal transfer |
Exact behavior varies by region, product and application version. The live source-account selector controls.
5. Internal transfer is not a blockchain transaction
Moving an asset between the user’s Funding and Trading accounts updates OKX’s internal ledger. It does not send coins to an external address, does not have a public blockchain TxID and is generally immediate and free according to OKX guidance.
An onchain withdrawal is different: it leaves OKX through a selected blockchain network and can incur fees, confirmations and irreversible address risk.
6. Internal transfer is not an OKX user transfer
A transfer between Funding and Trading changes the internal compartment under the same customer. A transfer to another user changes beneficial control, even if performed through an internal OKX identifier and without an onchain transaction.
Read the destination field carefully. “To Trading” is not the same action as sending to another UID, email or phone number.
7. Main accounts and sub-accounts add another layer
A sub-account can have its own balances, permissions, orders and positions. Funds located there may not appear as available in the main account even when the portfolio view aggregates their value.
Select the correct transfer scope: Funding and Trading within one account, or main-account and sub-account transfer. Review sub-account restrictions and open activity first.
8. Choose the deposit destination deliberately
Supported deposit flows may let the user choose Funding or Trading as the destination. If Trading is selected, OKX documentation says the received asset can be routed there automatically. Otherwise it may remain in Funding.
Record the destination together with the token, network and deposit address. A successful deposit into Funding is not a failed trading deposit; it may simply require an internal transfer.
9. Verify token and network before depositing
The same asset symbol can be supported on multiple networks. Select the exact token and blockchain in OKX, then confirm the sending platform uses that network. Check memo or tag requirements.
The Funding/Trading distinction cannot repair a wrong-network deposit. Network selection happens before OKX assigns the credited balance internally.
10. Blockchain confirmation and OKX credit are separate stages
A transaction can appear on an explorer before OKX has received the required confirmations and credited it. Save the TxID, check the correct explorer and compare the destination with the OKX deposit record.
After credit, the account location determines availability for trading. Do not confuse “confirmed onchain” with “ready for an order.”
11. Travel Rule or compliance checks can delay credit
Some regions require information about the sender or receiving platform. OKX may show a deposit as pending, locked or requiring submission until the requested verification is completed.
Complete checks only through the signed-in official application. No legitimate verification requires sharing an exchange password, authenticator code or wallet seed phrase in a private message.
12. Maintenance can pause deposits or withdrawals
Wallet upgrades, chain upgrades, forks, token migrations, security incidents and project maintenance can temporarily suspend a network. The balance may remain visible while one movement channel is disabled.
Check the live status and announcement rather than trying another network with a superficially similar token.
13. Transfer Funding assets to Trading for an order
- Open Assets and choose Transfer.
- Select the correct scope and main or sub-account.
- Set From to Funding and To to Trading.
- Select the asset and enter an amount.
- Review both directions before confirming.
- Check transfer history and the Trading available balance.
Interface labels can differ by region. Follow the fields shown in the current account.
14. Internal transfers normally have no network fee
OKX describes transfers between the user’s Funding and Trading accounts as internal, free and immediate. No miner or validator is involved because the asset remains within OKX custody.
This does not eliminate trading fees, borrowing interest, withdrawal fees or product costs that may apply to later actions.
15. Confirm the transfer history
If the destination balance does not update, first verify that the transfer completed rather than assuming a display delay. Review asset, amount, source, destination and timestamp.
Refresh the page or application after confirming history. External portfolio applications can group OKX account types differently and should not override the official ledger view.
16. Total balance is not available balance
Total balance can include amounts already committed to orders, positions or products. Available balance is the portion the selected action can use under current rules.
Always read the available amount on the relevant order, transfer or withdrawal screen. The portfolio total answers a different question.
17. Open limit orders reserve assets
An unfilled or partially filled spot order reserves the remaining input. That amount cannot simultaneously fund another order or internal transfer.
Review Open Orders. Cancel only if the order is no longer wanted, then confirm its status and refreshed available balance.
18. Trigger and conditional orders can reserve capacity
Depending on product and mode, conditional orders may affect available assets or position capacity. A trigger not yet activated can still be part of the account’s risk calculation.
Do not delete protective TP/SL orders merely to release balance without understanding how the position will be protected afterward.
19. Open positions use collateral
Margin and derivative positions require collateral. Assets supporting maintenance margin cannot be freely removed if that would violate risk requirements.
Closing or reducing a position changes market exposure and can realize profit or loss. Treat it as a trading decision, not a routine interface fix.
20. Unrealized profit is not always transferable
A position can display positive unrealized PnL while parts of the account remain reserved. OKX notes that earnings associated with open positions may not be transferable until positions close under applicable rules.
Use the platform’s available-to-transfer number instead of manually adding balances and unrealized results.
21. Margin debt can block a transfer
An outstanding loan and interest can make assets unavailable. Repayment requirements depend on account mode, borrowed asset and market conditions.
Inspect liabilities before moving collateral. Repay through the official flow and confirm that principal and interest are cleared.
22. Trading bots allocate funds
Grid, DCA or other active strategies can reserve assets. They remain part of portfolio value but are not ordinary idle balance.
Stopping a bot can close, retain or convert positions depending on selected options. Read the termination screen instead of assuming all original assets return unchanged.
23. Earn subscriptions are another balance location
Assets subscribed to Earn may need redemption before internal transfer. Redemption timing, availability and yield treatment depend on the product.
Review flexible or fixed conditions and settlement timing. A displayed Earn value is not necessarily instantly transferable.
24. Real-time settlement can create temporary restrictions
OKX documents that certain futures settlement events can temporarily make transfers unavailable. Retrying repeatedly will not bypass a system-level settlement period.
Check status and wait for completion. Preserve screenshots and timestamps if the restriction continues beyond the stated process.
25. Deposit limits can restrict excess funds
Official guidance notes that assets beyond certain network deposit limits can be restricted and released according to quota rules. A credited total can therefore exceed immediately usable balance.
Review account-specific limit details rather than splitting transactions to circumvent controls.
26. Non-tradable assets can be visible but unusable
An unsupported, delisted, airdropped or wrong-network asset can appear without an active market. Transferring it to Trading does not create liquidity or listing support.
Use the official asset-status information. If withdrawal is permitted, verify that the receiving wallet supports the exact token and network.
27. Move available assets back to Funding
When trading is complete, open Transfer, set From to Trading and To to Funding, choose the asset and enter no more than the available amount. Confirm the direction and history.
This internal move does not itself withdraw the asset. It prepares it for holding or the relevant funding/withdrawal flow.
28. Release funds methodically
| Why unavailable | Where to verify | Potential next step |
|---|---|---|
| Open spot order | Open Orders | Wait, modify or cancel deliberately |
| Open derivative position | Positions and risk data | Maintain, reduce or close with risk review |
| Margin debt | Liabilities | Repay principal and interest |
| Trading bot | Active strategies | Review and stop under chosen settlement option |
| Earn subscription | Earn holdings | Redeem under product rules |
29. Withdrawal balance is another calculation
An asset can be transferable between internal accounts yet unavailable for external withdrawal. Payment-related holds, security changes, verification checks and network suspensions can impose a separate boundary.
Read the withdrawal page’s available amount and details. Do not infer withdrawability from Funding balance alone.
30. Recent fiat funding can trigger a hold
OKX documentation describes temporary protection periods for crypto purchased with some recent bank transfers or newly linked card payments. The asset may be tradable while an equivalent value remains unavailable for withdrawal.
Moving it between Funding and Trading does not remove the hold. Consult Hold Details for the reason, amount and release date.
31. Security changes can restrict withdrawals
Password, authenticator, fund-password or account-security changes may trigger a temporary protective restriction. The current interface should state the applicable period.
Do not weaken security or follow unofficial bypass instructions. Plan changes before time-sensitive withdrawals.
32. Verification and risk controls can restrict access
Identity requirements and compliance reviews vary by jurisdiction and activity. Complete requested steps inside the official account and retain case identifiers.
No article can promise that a manual review will end at a specific time. Provide accurate information through official support only.
33. Network suspension is asset-specific
A withdrawal button can be unavailable because a chain wallet, node or token contract is under maintenance. Trading on OKX may continue while onchain movement is paused.
Do not substitute another network unless the receiver supports the corresponding token representation and deposit route.
34. Understand withdrawal statuses
| Status | Meaning | Reference to keep |
|---|---|---|
| Application / submitted | Request received and checks underway | Withdrawal record |
| Pending | Awaiting processing or review | Request ID and timestamp |
| In progress | OKX is processing the transfer | Withdrawal details |
| Sent | Broadcast or completed internally | TxID or internal-transfer record |
After an onchain send, the receiving platform may still require additional confirmations before credit.
35. Visible balance but spot order fails
- Confirm the asset is in Trading, not Funding or Earn.
- Check that the selected pair uses that quote asset.
- Review open orders and reserved amounts.
- Confirm the asset is tradable in the region.
- Read minimum size and precision rules.
A portfolio valuation in USDT does not mean the account literally holds usable USDT.
36. Trading balance but transfer fails
Check available-to-transfer, open orders, positions, margin liabilities, bots, Earn and settlement status. Verify the correct main or sub-account.
Do not close positions blindly. Capture the exact restriction and review the economic consequences of releasing collateral.
37. Funding balance but withdrawal fails
Open the withdrawal page and inspect unavailable-balance details. Check holds, security changes, verification, network status, minimum amount, fees and destination requirements.
If the receiving address needs a memo or tag, verify it before submission. Funding availability does not protect against destination errors.
38. External tracker balance does not match OKX
API tools can aggregate Funding, Trading, Earn and sub-accounts differently or lag behind transfers. Use OKX records as the source for operational decisions.
Check API permissions and synchronization time. Never grant withdrawal permission merely to improve portfolio display.

Frequently asked questions
Why can I see crypto but not trade it?
It may be in Funding, Earn or another sub-account, be reserved by an order, or be non-tradable. Check its exact location and available amount.
Does OKX charge for Funding-to-Trading transfers?
OKX describes transfers between the user’s own Funding and Trading accounts as internal and free. Later trades or withdrawals can have separate costs.
Why can I trade crypto but not withdraw it?
A recent payment hold, security restriction, verification review or network suspension can affect external withdrawal independently of trading.
Will moving funds to Funding close a position?
Only funds available under the account’s risk rules can normally move. Do not alter a position or protection order simply to free collateral without reviewing risk.
Can an internal transfer fix a wrong-network deposit?
No. Internal account location is separate from the blockchain used for the deposit.
Why is an open order still using balance?
The unfilled portion remains reserved so it can execute. Cancel it only if that trading instruction is no longer wanted.
